all its input are signals on its input data chain.
If the processor is a CPU, the input data chain is hi-lo voltage.
If the processor is a brain, the input data chain is pulses on nerves,
no matter where the pulses come from.
The intelligent processor uses different protocols to treat different
input signals from different i/o ports.
If the processor is a CPU, it will treat the data from hd as files,
the data from RS232 as mouse or sth else, etc.
If the processor is a brain, it will treat the data from eyes as pictures,
the data from ears as sounds, etc.
Certainly the brain is mostly like a multi-processor system,
the basic diagram is the same.
That is to say, just like we can use a fake-cd software to cheat
a CPU to treat data from hd like data from cd-rom, there are methods
to cheat the brain by sending signals to related nerves instead of
the biological device.
This is theoritical base of researching artificial retina and
This kind of artificial devices are just devices with the same
protocols that work in the nature devices.
So, to say full conceptions is based of scientific results.
